Iberia Parish Adult Drug Court Outpatient Clinic began operation on April 1, 1998 as a drug treatment court program. The outpatient clinic is a program for the rehabilitation of chemically dependent adults who are referred by the 16th Judicial District Court. It is the belief of the Iberia Parish Adult Drug Court Outpatient Treatment Clinic that the criminal justice population has a substance abuse problem that is the primary factor in the causation of crime within the 16th Judicial District of Louisiana. The Drug Court Clinic provides intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment with the objective of reducing the rate of incarceration in Louisiana along with the goal of enabling clients to free themselves of addictive disorders. The treatment modalities used utilize group, individual and family therapy, the self help programs of AA/NA, and case management in a structured and disciplined environment.

The outpatient program services 150 to 160 clients at anyone time. For clients to participate in the program they must meet the criteria listed in the S.T.R.A.I.G.H.T. Model.  Each client is interviewed and assessed for appropriateness of treatment. Individualized treatment plans are created based on each client's individual needs and strengths. The outpatient program is broken into four different phases of treatment and lasting different lengths of time. The four different Phases are  Detoxification/Educations (8 weeks) , Stabilization (minimum 4 months), Maturation (minimum 3 months), and Continued Care (3 to 6 months). Clients advance into the different phases if phase advancement tasks are completed, sanction free for a period of time, and are a positive role model. All clients are required to attend group therapy and individual sessions, submit to random urine screens and breath tests, 3 AA/NA meetings weekly, obtain an AA/NA Sponsor, have family attendance at family groups, and attend regularly schedule status hearings with the judge. Each client must obtain a full time job or enroll in an educational program. Clients that do not have their GED must acquire it before graduation. Treatment lasts a minimum of 12 months.

Treatment staff is made up of professionals from different areas of practice. There are currently four full time primary counselors on staff that provide direct care to clients. The program also contracts with six other professionals in the counseling field. The strength of this well rounded staff is pulled together by the different disciplines in education and training: from substance abuse, social work and psychology. We currently have Board Certified Substance Counselors, Board Certified Social Workers, and Licensed Professional Counselors. We provide direct mental health services to our clients by contracting with a Psychiatrist. Law Enforcement is represented by having a compliance officer on staff whose job duties are to be a  liaison between the program and area law enforcement agencies and too follow-up on clients to make sure they comply with the program.

Iberia Parish Drug Court Outpatient Clinic offers other ancillary services to clients. The current programs, groups, and services are: Cultural Group, Dual Diagnosis Group, In-House AA Meeting, Social Club, Aftercare/Alumni Program, Women's Specific Groups, Life Skills Educational Group, Relapse Group, and Recreational Activities Program.  The Program currently works closely with other community action programs to provide housing, medical care, education and literacy training, job training and placement, inpatient and halfway house treatment, and child care.
