My name is Nathaniel Mitchell, most often referred to as "Captain Mitchell," as a result of my law enforcement experience where my rank was Captain. I am the latest member of the Iberia Parish Family-Focused Juvenile Drug Court team having begun my duties in the summer of 2006. I am a New Iberia native and I attended school here also. I am a alumni of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, which is now called the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After graduating for college I worked for Texaco, USA for nine years than entered the Law Enforcement arena. I served as Deputy Warden of the Parish Jail where I concentrated on inmate programming and family affairs. After leaving Law Enforcement I accepted an offer with the Iberia Parish School Board to work with youth in the school system as a Behavioral Interventionist. A position I held until my present assignment with the Family-Focused Juvenile Drug Court. Perhaps the one element that has drawn me away from the school system is our ability in the Drug Court to assist the juvenile with a more total package, meaning that we're able to provide assistance, not only to the child, but, to the entire family unit when needed thus allowing for a better chance of saving the child while assisting the family needs.
I have been truly blessed to have the opportunity to work with as many caring and individuals that I'm associated with daily. I only look to bigger and better things to happen within the Drug Court system in the future.
