Drug Testing The central element of success in S.T.R.A.I.G.H.T. is accurate and immediate drug testing and result reporting. Traditional methods employed have had some impact, however, the reporting time of results frequently created an opportunity for offenders to escape consequences because of turn-around time. To circumvent this, the program, in partnership with SECON Laboratories employs a collection process with twenty-four hour turnaround on results. Furthermore, results are posted on a confidential website accessible only by password. Positive results are reported to counselors daily via secured fax and website. This allows for coordination of all information to all team members and rapid response to all positive results. Clients are allowed to contest positive results by requesting GCMS confirmation on a fee for service basis. No sanctions are imposed on clients until the client admits to recent use or GCMS has confirmed the specimen. If specimens are not adequate or issues of specific gravity are in question, the program employs other methods of detection such as sweat patches. Clients are tested according to phase at the present time. However, effective April 1, 2001 a randomization program utilizing a color-code and toll-free phone number will be implemented to further enhance the efficiency of the program. As a rule, Phase 1 clients are tested at least 3 times per week with daily drug screens a possibility. Phase 2 clients test 3 times per week. Phase 3 clients are tested twice weekly and Phase 4 clients tests one to two times per week. It is understood by all parties that any client may be tested at any additional time at the discretion of the team. SECON Labs employs EMIT technology in their assay of client specimens. Results are reported in court status hearings on all clients and documented in the client record of treatment. All results are also reported monthly to the State of Louisiana MIS for statistical tracking purposes.
